two pit bulls attack an 8 week old puppy and then go after a young child who bravely tried to save his dog. we spoke exclusively to the child's mother tonight. plus, get those jackets ready. rain and much colder weather headed our way for the second half of the weekend. good evening, everyone. i'm jim rosenfield. we begin tonight, though, with the mystery surrounding the disappearance of 17-year-old brian glenn, supposed to play in today's homecoming football game in fairfax. instead, dozens gathered for a vigil after the game looking for answers. darcy spencer is live in fairfax tonight and spoke to brian's

family about why they believe there's a lot more to this story. darcy? >> reporter: jim, there are a lot of questions surrounding this disappearance, but relatives tell me there's one thing they know for sure. that he did not run away. they say it's something he's never done before, and that is not in his character. that homecoming game played right here at his high scale ho and that's something he would never want to miss. ♪ dozens of students and parents turned out for a vigil for missing teen brian glenn. the 17-year-old senior did not show up for the wt woodson homecoming football game. he's a kicker for the team. >> i saw one of this friends kicking a kickoff that usually he does, and i almost broke down then. it was tough. >> reporter: glenn has been missing nearly a week. the teen's disappearance considered highly unusual by authorities. he was not known to be a runaway. his parents are beyond worried. >> he's out there somewhere.

and the right information just needs to get connected. >> it's so unusual. there's just no indications that he was -- preparing to run away and for what reason? >> reporter: the teen was last seen at a duncan doughnuts, first buying half a dozen doughnuts, then a bottle of water. police recovered his car as park. police and bloodhounds searched the area knop evidence found. where he is and if anything has happened to him remains a mystery. >> never any idea that -- >> not a clue. >> reporter: he would disappear after that? >> not a clue. no suspicion. nothing. just out of thin air. >> reporter: now the teen's father also says he already has a plane ticket to visit a college he wants to attend after graduation. again, pointing to this idea that he did not run away, at least on his own. now, if anyone has additional information about what may have happened or where he is, asked to call fairfax county police. reporting live from fairfax, virginia, darcy spencer, news 4.

nice day out there today. you could even get away with shorts, but heads up. getting chilly and wet. storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell has more on big changes coming for tomorrow. right? >> absolutely, jim. the key word, could have been wearing shorts today. already now temperatures are back down into the mid-60s's we did make 80 degrees this afternoon in washington. that's four days in a row, 80 or higher. that is where the streak will come to anend. we will be nowhere close to 80 degrees tomorrow. current temperatures now back into the upper 50s in northern maryland. 59 now in martinsburg, west virginia. still 70 in st. mary's county. most rain drop, gone. the only rain drops left out towards rehoboth. you may want to find the wind breaker. temperatures easily down into the mid and upper 50s by 11:00. a bund'sup factor.

staying in the upper hos, low 50s for high temperatures tomorrow, jim. 2459s a 25, 30 degree drop from this afternoon. we'll talk more about that and how long the chill will last coming up. >> yikes. all right, thanks, chuck. now with a news 4 exclusive. a germantown boy and his new puppy recovering from a pit ball attack. witnesses say 10-year-old max actually saved his 8 week old lab pup fri two pit bulls. a woman with a baby was walking the two dogs when they broke free and attacked the lab. max tried to pull his dog away and neighbors rushed to help with a hose and a broom. max escaped with bite mark on his arms you see, and scratching on his stomach. his mother and a neighbor described what they saw. >> my son started running -- i guess he wanted to, you know, go inside the house. he couldn't do it. they started attacking him, and attacked the dog and my son right there on the middle of the street. >> saw the dogs attacking the guy, the young kid. i picked the hose up, dragged

the hose probably 20 feet and started squirting the hose. >> the puppy named drake was taken to the ves with broken legs and a broken jaw. the two pit bulling were taken a aw away. the boy's mon is planning to file a civil suit next week. and linked to steroid injections. a new outbreak. seven people diedtwo deaths in maryland and virginia. at least 60 reported cases of mennen right? s -- meningitis. latest cases in minnesota and ohio. health officials are trying to contact thousands who received the shots for back pain. the contaminated steroid appears to have come from a pharmacy in massachusetts. this type of meningitis is not contagious. we know the name of the virginia state trooper killed as he ras directing traffic. andrew fox was hit and killed by an suv last night.

happened on route 30 near theme park way in hanover county. fox was directing traffic as people left the state fair when the suv hit hill. he was take ton a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries. hours after arriving in the united states, five terror suspects pleaded not guilty today in federal court. suspects fought extradition from england for years. today they were charged with recruiting terrorists and providing terrorist groups with money and equipment. four of the five men pleaded not guilty'sthe fifth suspect did not enter a plea but it charged with attempting to set up a terrorist training camp in oregon. all of the men face up to life in prison if convicted. pope benedict's former butler found guilty today of stealing thousands of vatican documents including some of the pope's private letters alleging corruption within the church. poolo was sentenced to 18 months in prison. he'll begin serving time under house arrest and many expect him to be pardoned by pope benedict.

gabriela does not feel like a heave and did what he did out of love for the church. back here at home, metro riders will soon see controversial ads at several stations. the ads from the american freedom defense initiative suggest radical islamists are savages. metro tried to delay putting them up because of the deadly protests in the middle east, but yesterday a judge ruled metro must comply by monday night. the ads displayed at the georgia avenue u street, takoma park and clenmont stations. nearly all of the planes grounded by american airlines by of the seat problems are back in service tonight. american took 48 boeing 757 jets out of service after reports of seats coming loose mid-flight. the airline was forced to cancel nearly 100 flights while they worked on the issue. mechanics say spilled drinks may have ruined the locking pins that keep the seats in place. a popular d.c. night spot recently got a face-lift.

getting rebranded, but will this name stick? the up and coming business district in south adams morgan between northwest was christened as somo today by mayor vincent gray. the neighborhood group behind it knows the name might not stick right away but they're celebrating the re-birth of retail in the area. the multimillion dollar streetscape project in adams morgan just wrapped up this past summer. people in fairfax county have a little more time to pay property taxes. annual car tax payments due by midnight. the website that accepts the payments crashed. they pushed the deadline back to midnight tonight. to pay your car tax online, head to fairfax county.gov/dta. gas prices hit an all-time high in california topping $4.61 a gallon. a attempt error shortage in supply triggered the price spike. look at those prices.

about 1,500 supporter of the maryland dream act rallied in prince george's county, the act making it easier forechildren of immigrants to attend college and on the november ballot as question four. news 4's derrick ward followed the march from langley park to the university of maryland.
